Why we are use vlookup in excel and why this is important in excel?

it minimises typographical error and time. Vlookup and Hlookup is very useful if one several data are link to one or more sheets. Try it!

Excel is used for find value in table array. It is very useful function for matching two data base on common value. Suppose you have thousand of order details in which you  have to find few hundred order in master data weather these are exit in your master order data or not.

Further you have only only order ID and you want to get all details agains order easly you can get using vlookup

Syntax

Vlookup(lookup Value,lookup table array, column index number,0)

Explaination

lookup value -- Value which you want to find

lookup table array -- Table in which value to be search

column Index number -- The column index number indicates which column of the table array contains the data you are after.

For example:

    • if you enter a2 into the column index number, VLOOKUP returns a value from the second column of the table_array;

 

  • if the column index number is4, it returns a value from the fourth column of the table_array.

Last argument is used for exact match or approx match.use0 or false for exact match and1 or true for approx match.
