Of course you can sell a product without marketing especial if it is a good sellable item or service however it might take longer time to establish the maximum selling outcome. Marketing strategies is a very important tool to ease the sales, enhances it and maximizes your selling outcome faster by creating product awareness.
i would like to add something here. without marketing you can sell anything you want. but you can sell it once or twice. but with marketing you can sell it multiple time, and keep your business for long time. by having good marketing strategies you can predict your sales for future. selling without marketing give you immediate earning with no future expectations, but with marketing you sell now , satisfy your customer, anticipate his needs and build a long term relationship. if there is no long term relationship, no loyalty earned, then means marketing was poor.

I agree as when we try to analyze how marketing drives products like Pepsi and Starbucks, I probably wouldn’t be on my way to buy ground up coffee filtered through water served in a paper cup with a plastic lid … for the second time today and everyday!

Previously, they used to say that the product sells itself. I believe that Marketing is everything. Sales is a part from the Marketing strategy & Plans. When you create, brand, price, promote and distribute your product in the right way, it will be successful. Also, Marketing keeps the image of a product in the right position, helps companies innovate new ways & new products by measuring the outcome of the sales.
Of course you don't need to have academic marketing knowledge to make sales or even to have a successful business. But you must be applying marketing rules and approaches even if you don't know that you are doing so. To clarify what I exactly mean I will give an example from my local environment, there was a man who didn't continue his education who decided to sell delicious meat & sausage sandwiches in the early 80's through a cart. He was preparing the meat and the sandwiches through his unique special way in a crowded area downtown. The unique taste he offers brought him a lot of popularity that attracted even the higher classes which weren't his initial target segment. He sustained his business for more than 30 years now and grew it gradually from his small cart to a whole building occupying several floors with thousands of people coming in and out everyday. Although he has a pretty successful business but lacking the needed business and marketing knowledge in the management prevented the business to turn into a big business with several branches and losing a lot of opportunities came to his door.
The lesson we have from this example that you can sustain your business even if you have no marketing function in your organization as long as you are satisfying your customers' needs and offering them a unique value through mastering your value creation process even if you have never attended a single business class and don't have a marketing function !!!!
Of course, I am not calling for eliminating the marketing function from the organization and depend only on your gut feelings . The marketing will help you to make use of the cumulative knowledge and experience accumulated through decades in satisfying your customer, gain profits and sustain your business through the approaches in the marketing literature. The marketing will help you know what to sell, when to sell, and to whom. The marketing will help you to spot the gaps in the market.
Shortly, You can sell without marketing and even you can build long term relations with your customers but you can't reach your potential without marketing !!!
I hope my answer was helpful.
I think with out marketing the sale will not be able
Every time you sell any product they have to tell the client feature-and defects
Any you use marketing
necessarily useing marketing
