What do we use Zener diode for?

Zener diode is commonly used for voltage regulation, it is a kind of diode which permits current to flow in the forward direction as normal, but will also allow it to flow in the reverse direction when the voltage is above a certain value.

used for voltage regulation while reverse biasing. and while using zener diode input voltage can be varied but output voltage remains constant.

zener diode is smwhat different from normal diode in a sense that it operates in reverse voltage region. it has high value of breakdown voltage that is why it is used for voltage regulation. it always keep a constant voltage at its output terminals. so basically it is a voltage regulator.
