Why we start induction motors in industry with star delta starter?

to reduce starting current 

but why induction motor gives large starting current???????????????soliman

To limit large starting current ; induction motor is started at reduced voltage till it reach certain speed then the it reaches the supply voltage thats why we use star-delta starter instead of DOL (Direct-Online) espically in large induction motors
