How we could motive professional project managers and what project manager want from their organization
Very few of the Project Managers are successful. If Organization want to retain such resources try to win the trust of the Project Manager. Human Resource is the Human Capital for the Organization and such (a successful Project Manager) resources prove this statement.
It is not about only PM, any good employee is the greatest asset any company can have. So you wanna make sure to do your best to keep them.
Make sure the job is enjoyable, this is the highest motivator to keep someone in his job, in addition to other important factors better treatment from the employer, more praise and a greater sense of being valued
By getting them to see their stay in the organizations as their dream. Common tactics are planning their personal and professional development, sharing the return of thier contributions with them, understanding their needs, keep them busy doing jobs which make them proud of themselves, & dont' give them less than their market value (in terms of benefits).
Project Managers are a special breed that requires constant motivation and support as they work at coordinating the many facets and requirements of a project.
The secret is my3 Cs: Constant Communication and Collaboration. As HR staff we need to focus on the human relation even if the transactional may take a good chunk of our time. I recommend sitting with the Project Manager and discussing: current job satisfaction - professional aspirations - any concerns or issues with the job or the organization then work on drafting a career path in coordination with the Project Manager's supervisor. This task will be a tri-party assignment that would need time, dedication, documentation and some market research. Dont ignore the competition either, because that is the usual next stop for your employees so dont be afraid to pick the phone and call your contacts and ask what the retention rate and strategy is when it comes to that specific employee level/type. Good Luck!
The only way to keep a successful or star Project Manager in your organization is to promote him to higher level such as Senior Project Manager or Project Director along with increased remuneration and better benefits as no successful Project Manager will be contented with no promotion at all.
Human nature associated with pride dictates that if a person becomes successful, the next thing to expect is definitely advancement in terms of both Position level along with money.
However, if you want the successful Project Manager retains his post in that level with a much higher salary, you can not give him amount beyond the ceiling due to Management policy constraints, otherwise, the probable effect will be : Officers higher than Project Manager will be overtaken and your higher Management will not allow that.
Therefore, there is not much you can do as the successful Project Manager will look for new opportunities in other organizations that can offer him the level of remuneration as per his perceived market value and better benefits that can not be given by his previous Employer due to its Management policy constraints as mentioned above.
this is so true, because just like everyone else, just like a business proposal, an opportunity is also a form of bidding. oftentimes, the best and good project managers, they come and go, and who offers the best in the interest of the project manager, wins!
The answer would be challenge, organisations with enough challenges, and that are able to provide a person with more exposure in different aspects are ones who may attract and retain people, also, the alignment between the values and culture of the surrounding environment is another aspect that one may look into as well.
It's totally fact morality of a manager, only proper motivation will solve the problem.
I partially agree ................
