When creating a CV do you believe recruiters prefer a designed pdf, or a well laid out and easy to understand word doc?

I don't think my question is clear so let me reiterate.
I myself have been torn between a professional pdf CV made in word and a designed pdf CV made in indesign which is more laid back and fun.
You can never tell which a company prefers.
Do they like to see your personality or do they want a no bull-shit quick to understand approach? Especially when applying to companies that aren't fully design led.
Both formats are PDF, I'm just asking which approach to design is preferred.

PDF will be better, because word format could be crashed if opened from a different office, PDF format will not be changed because actually it is an image..
also PDF is faster in opening,, i think it is more professional.

I think it won’t make any different, the most important thing is to make the C/V clear & show the skills of you.

it basically nothing crucial , however PDF filed are faster to open , and some browsers are capable of viewing them in e-mail home page directly also content cant be changed in a PDF file since its an image
