What is the different between layer and shape in Photoshop ?

My friend if you are a photoshop user i am sure you would be knowing certain terms of the software.

Layers are actually portions of the image that you want to see at the end. So with each layer combined you will get your final image.

Shape is merely a tool that is used on a layer. For instance you can create a new layer and draw a star shape and create a new layer and draw a square. so both layers will contain different shapes. 

You can hide each layer to hide your shape. so if you hide square layer, you star will still be visible.
