How important is a job description in recruitment?

for eg: recently the company in UAE held a walk in interview, they made two big blunders.1) they never listed the companys full address, but yes a phone number was listed. guess what happened next? hundreds of phone calls asking for directions, the operator must have had a bad day2) they mention for eg: sales executive but do not mention the requirements. (so what does that mean? hundreds of candidates with no relevant exposure in the same industry walking in for an interview). I Strongly urge every recruiter in the UAE to carefully use public domains for vacancies being posted and clearly describe the requirements. Peopls give their valuable time to your ads online.

What does a Job description do? It tells you the basic QRs for the Job, unfortunately the JDs are made withpout giving thought for the same. Most times it is cut copy paste job which is vague and does not give the correct picture. Some JDs are so elaborate and detailed that the person who fits all would have to be super hero.

The JD is the start point for a candidate to understand the profile and see if he/she fits and then apply. If the same is shoddily prepared you will be bombareded with number of mis fit CVs and work will go up trying to just sort out the chaff from wood.

It is interest of the recruiter to give a clear, concise and achievable JD.

  1. A detailed explanation of the roles and responsibilities of the post advertised
