1) sleep - this allows the body to replenish energy stores, adjust brain function to allow for memory and cognition to work properly, and also allows chemicals to be regenerated that are depleted throughout the day
2) eat - taking in nutrients and water allow the body to continue to metabolize, carrying out the necessary chemical processes that allow a person to stay alive
3) excrete waste - as the kidneys filter the blood of salts, excess water, and waste products, we release this from the body as urine. As unabsorbed products result from digestion, we release this as feces.
4) exercise - this allows the body's cardiovascular and muscular systems to stay in shape so that they can remain adaptive to various active physical stresses that we may need to face in our daily lives
5) breathe - respiration allows for oxygen to be taken in, allowing for us to generate energy from the food and water than we consume, and carbon dioxide (primary respiration waste product) to be exhaled(removed from the body via the lungs)
