because it have the best from the two Routing Protocol Types (Linkstate and Distance Vector)
Following are few features that distinguish it from other routing protocols
1. It Performs fast convergence
2. Supports VLSM
3. Supports partial updates
4. Support for multiple layer protocols
5. Hybrid routing protocol (best of distance vector and link-state algorithms)
For me, i always prefer OSPFv2 over any other dynamic protocol in the world. Why? First, because it is a vendor-neutral protocol and can be used across multiple vendor routing products. Second, its intelligence of exchanging link state information between peers makes it even better than EIGRP. Native Link state protocols are much more faster than Native or Hybrid DV protocols.
Just stick with the Natives !! ;)
Eigrp is a hybrid protocol which combines the advantages of the linkstate and the distance routing protocol so its a cisco proprietary, so it has a rapid convergence since it used a backup(the feasible successor) for the best path (successr) so always when a successor fails to work it has a backup which immediatly comes into the place of the best route . Also it is easy to be configured on a router.
Configuration:
R1(config)#router eigrp ASN(Autonomys System)
R1(config)#network (Network address) Wc (Wild card Mask).
So you see its to simple....... to be configured.
Hope Everything is now clear :)
for easy convergenve and configure as well as cisco propritry and a igrp protocol. it follows linked state algorithem.
