the operating rooms are wet locations and should have isolated power panels to alert staff to ground faults but keep the power on. We know for a fact that the operating rooms will get wet with hosedown and bodily fluids that tend to go all over. Wet location or not, the isolated power panels are needed for safety in an intrusive environment.
Isolated power systems offer an invaluable advantage: Early detection allows for critical systems to remain online in a single fault
condition. BENDER Isolated Power Panels provide isolated power to electrical systems in operating rooms and other critical careareas.
Utilizing the latest in line isolation monitoring technology, the LIM2010 provides advanced warning of faults to help reduce downtime
and increase operational efficiencies. BENDER isolated power system equipment are designed in strict compliance with UL1047, UL
1022, and UL50.
Isolated Power Panels are designed to provide isolated powerto electrical circuits installed in operating rooms and other electrically susceptible patient care areas. Each isolation power includes a single- or3-phase transformer, a Line Isolation Monitor, a reference ground bus, aprimary circuit breaker, and a number of branch circuit breakers .
Electrical power for an operating room comes from a primary hospital source that usually originates from a connection to an alternating-current (AC) station of the local power company. (Sometimes an emergency gasoline-powered electrical generator is the primary source.) After arriving at an operating room, electrical power is modulated, isolated, and dispensed to electrical outlets in the room by the secondary coils of one or more large isolation transformers. Connections in three-hole power outlets in operating rooms, therefore, are somewhat different from connections in standard outlets found elsewhere in the hospital. In operating rooms, a circuit cannot be completed by connecting one of the two power contacts to the ground contact
Electrical isolation is used to isolate all the unwanted frequncies and signals into the surgical operation rooms , which may cause disfunctioning of the some equipements in the rooms.
The primary and secondary of the isolation transformer cannot exceed600 volts in any isolation
system supplying power to an anesthetizing area or other critical care patient area. The secondary
circuit conductors must be provided with an approved overcurrent protective device in both conductors
of each branch circuit.
