Why and When to Go Up to the Cloud?

In the last few years raised up a new technology named "Cloud Computing". and the biggest IT Companies start the distribution of their services like Microsoft Office365 and other apps and services. After review, I found that there are a advantages and disadvantages of using this technology. Biggest advantage is the availability and accessibility, and the biggest disadvantage is the "Cost".

Lower costs for IT – Capex VS. Opex

Conservation of Capital/Cash is King in this economy! The credit we once had available to us is now gone AND its not coming back for a long time! The Cloud can bring to  you a whole new environment or improved business system with no capital outlay!

Everything is “handled”

With your business systems up in the cloud and with a99.9% guaranteed uptime there really isn’t much left to worry about. Any device that you have at your office will only require minimum maintenance and monitoring, which of course is all handled by us.

Nothing on site to own, update, or manage

Now the cloud provider has to worry about the backup, now they’re responsible for maintaining, designing, and the big investments on on-going software and hardware upgrades. All of this while meeting the very high99.9% uptime!

100% New infrastructure

Those old servers in your office can now rest in peace. They may be useful for additional backup or archiving but you will now experience only what the blue chip companies experience with enterprise class servers and network infrastructure!

Automated Backups

With your data in the cloud in our secure datacentres it will be replicated amount3 different datacentres within the UK and1 in the US, and we also include a standard2 week rotation of your data just in-case you lose something.

Guaranteed business continuity

We have your business systems replicated between3 different datacentres within the UK and1 in the US, and we also include a standard2 week rotation of your data just in-case you lose something. To top this we include what we call a “reverse backup” to your location on a USB drive we give to you. Just for added re-assurance.

All new applications and operating systems

You will get a brand new copy of Windows for all of your staff and the latest Microsoft server platforms on your servers infrastructure at our datacentres.

Unlimited automatic software upgrades

We will make sure that every time Microsoft updates their software (and we know they do this a LOT) you get the update as well at absolutely no extra cost. This includes on your desktop and on the servers like Exchange server for example.

Automatic redundancy built into everything

With3 different datacentres in the UK and1 in the US all replicating with each other, and a standard2 week rotation of your data just in-case you lose something. We can guarantee a99.9% uptime for your business systems. To top this we include what we call a “reverse backup” to your location on a USB drive we give to you. Just for added re-assurance.

Access to business systems from anywhere, anytime, any device

We recognise that you are becoming more dependent on the access to your business systems from anywhere anytime. Let’s face it, its’ no longer about the device we use, it’s now all about the delivery method.

How can It cost to much , and how can cloud cost be disadvantage ?

we are using cloud without any cost ?

lets analyses that

If a company with100 PC and Employer want to work on the cloud server

vs100 PC and Employer want to work on an Inside Server

I remember That I work in a hospital that hospital was my biggest disaster and at the same time the bigest start knowledge of biggest troubles of networking (i.e infrastructure) , this hospital with bad switches and routers and cables and server application that handel all the work , then I work for another company at the field of building infrastructure in the first place then putting the main application and other applications on the server or servers ( Good Infrastructure Is most important part of any network then came administration and good applications )

Lets Calculate Cost ( Example )

a - Infrastructure for cables and switches and routers will be the same

b - Then came PC prices

Consider that you want200 PC

1 - For cloud the price will be200 x200 =40000 LE ( and I mean what I am saying200 LE for PC)

2 - For Inside Servers = price of the servers + Price of strong200 PCs =40000 ( for1 or2 servers) +200 x3000 = 640000 LE

c - application software package price (lets consider Office as an example)

1 - office for cloud after five years pay will be the same price of office2013 ( that mean Installment without Interest )

d - consider that you want to use a program that make render like any video editor or cartoon movie maker or big movies maker software from any type , what will you do to make fast and efficient rendering ? , you must have Mars Processor ! , I mean very powerful Processor , That will cost you a lot , Look to the Reflector side of the moon , I mean cloud server Processor strength and speed and visualization and threading and cores and and and and ........etc

You will render your work in a minute

Thank you for that interesting question

It depends on situation. It depends on case to case basis. Same theory will not be applicable for all.

I have worked as Enterprise Architect for adopting Cloud Strategy for $4 billion US company.

Strategy1:

Define MSL: Master Server List

Define Application: Identify all the applications running on your organization

Identify the Application category: Critical, More Critical, Non Critical etc

Plan Public Cloud for Non critical applications

Plan Private Cloud for critical applications

We can plan Hybrid cloud

Based on situation we can even plan COLO in place of Private Cloud as well

Suggestion:

Side by side plan Application Portfolio Rationalization

Initiate virtualization to consolidate infrastructure

and APR will help to consolidate Application

Complete ROI

Plan for Cloud Adoption

Dear Eng. Abdullah ,

Cloud computing can help your company in the following fields:

  • Reduce costs. The cloud offers pay-per-use pricing. It can cut your expenses for equipment and applications, plus the costs to power, cool, house, and install them.
  • Become more agile. The cloud expands access to world-class capabilities, enabling innovation. You can implement applications faster, and add capacity on demand.
  • Raise productivity. The cloud simplifies applications access, and reduces mundane IT tasks. You can focus on managing the business, not the technology infrastructure.

However, risks include:

  • Service outages or delays; the cloud SP or your Internet SP (ISP) may not offer or fulfill the service-level agreement (SLA) that your business requires.
  • Changing a service from one cloud SP to another can be challenging.
  • Access could be controlled by the country where cloud computers are located.
  • The responsibility for information security is shared.
