its importance in sales and marketing is important because it provides the platform through which needs and concerns are negotiated and met.
I would use "effective" rather then "good".
Effective communications between concerned parties enable them to have a common understanding of the goals and the positions of different parties about achieving those goals effectively.
Understanding the customers' needs and getting them to understand what I see as the strengths of my proposal relative to others helps us both to reach a result satisfactory to all. Customers who select us willl do so based on objective assessment of our value to them and for those who don't, we will understand objectivley why they did so which might highlight our growth opportunities.
Good communication will lead to the success of the negotiations, which in turn will culminate in the process of successfully selling or marketing
