In Y (Star Connection) three coils of motor short on one end and applied Three phase on the other end of coils L1,L2,L3.it is used for motor rated below to10hp and application where high torque load.

in Delta Connection every coil of motor have different phase of on the ends example(l1,l2),(l2,l3)(l3,L1)

it is used10hp or higher rated motors.alse used for constant torque application.

coz we have to overcome with the starting current of motor so we start a motor at y coz in y conncetn volt at every phase is same but current differs and its also for protection of motor winding after its starting dleta is engaged in dleta at every point voltages are440 thats why we use y star at start then delta
