Why recruitment firms and HR personals looking to hire or prefer only those candidates who have a multinantional company's background experience?

I have recently been in a conversation with a recruitment firm and realised that most of them does not swim that extra mile which is required to find a right candidate for their clients. For example one of the top notch recruiter told me upon an inquiry about a logistics job for which I actualyt applied in UAE is that her client is looking for someone who has worked in a mutinational company with big brands, and she got offended when I told her that it means you are looking to hunt on the basis of company profile but not on the cnadidates profile and his/her set of skills. I mean when recruitement companies and HR personal's will start realising that there are bigger brands out there in terms of product portfolio and customer preferences. And the candidates working out of the (unilver, cocacola, pepsico, nestle & png) circle are also equally competitive infact in many cases have an edge when it comes to ground knowledge and multi tasking.

Dear Abdul Wahab,

I'll be more than happy to clarify why in3 points :

1- Experienced with multinational companies knows how's everything goes with attitude and key performance indicators.

2- They also understand the concepts of the big organization and run work professionally.

3- All multinational companies are training employees perfectly and enhance the communication skills of the employees.

I may write a lot of reasons too ... but I think you got the  idea.

In a multinational company, the work experience is quite different from non multinational company in terms of exposure to different cultures and reporting which happens at a global level.

Further investment in employee training and development is substantial as well trained and skilled employees are recruited in a multinational company hence it is considered a safer alternative to selecting candidate from non multinational company.

This does not mean that there is no talent in employee working in non multinational but this strategy is considered as safer alternative by recruirters at large. However, irrespective of multinational exposure, potential candidate needs to be interviewed for the practical experience required for the specific job.

Dear Mr. Awan, GREETINGS!

Certain professionals has alredy given you exmples in favour of MNC employees and vice versa, and almost all of them are right at their level and experiences. I would like to add a few things,

To my opinion, its not the choice of a recruiter rather it is the demand made by the employer which has mainly2 reasons:

1- Momentum of the company: They want a value addition in their business and presumes that a personnel from a MNC will be the fittest for the position as he/she must have a sound trining and experience.

2- Training Expenditures: Whether it is time or monetory expenditures, the employer do want to save both.

On controrary, Such type of hirings sometimes results in compromising in the rules & regulations of the company, compromising in the visionary and missionary motives as the new comer tends to apply those skills which he learns from the ex-compnay...... sometimes got success sometimes not.

Another important aspect, Personnels form national / local comapnies have a clearcut advantage that an MNC employee doesn't have is the tougher work environment. e.g., sales man of a local company has lerned a lot only from order booking and supplies that a sales man from an MNC doesn't face in a life time. (e.g., retailer dont know the brand and dont want to buy or even dont want to make it available on credit, or tired of multiple availabilities at different times etc)

There is a long list of advantages that non MNC employees possess so they should also be given fair chance of been evaluted on the basis of their skills, rather than hiring on the basis of companies they worked for.

Hiring a new employee from a multinational background will reduce the Cost, Time & Effort of raising the knowledge know how, competencies and related experince of the employee

because of the experience and knowledge there is a set of mind of recruiter that MNC people are more intelligent than to the unrecorgnised company employee but this is the bull shit because some time it happens that the right candidate does not get the right company because he belong to short city or the country

i think HR's should think about that i know they are right in some sort of light because if they will not consider the MNC person they will get burned to take the interview of thousand of useless candidate

so to use short way they always take the interview of MNC because they know in this the use less or neglagible candidate would be few only

1. Background strong knowledge.

2. Get enough training.

3. Adopt in diversity culture quickly.

4. Strategic rather than operational focus.

5. Good communication skills.

6. Brand employer produced good employees.

I do agree with your query that now employers are getting very selective in hiring a candidate and they prefer to have experienced candidates from MNCs and reason being;

·         Their detailed and system based working which lack in their setup.

·         Those individuals are experienced in technology like SAP, latest ERPs.

·         Due to heavy budget they have been exposed with various in-house and out-source trainings.

·         Working in such environment brings diversity exposure and confidence in overall personality.

·         Their on job grooming has been done with direction from foreign principle which is also plus point.

But, we have seen that moving up in such setup is not easy and most of them time individual finds them struck in position and they tend to move in local setups for higher positions and we too have few good local organizations that are following MNCs model.

its not about intelligent its about the knowledge, training and experience of those who work in the MNC's,even if your intelligent if you don't have proper training that the MNC's can provide you will definitely have the "culture shock" because most MNC's are working in fast paced environment because they always leveling up their game. I don't want to belittle those who don't work in a multi national company but if you want to level your playing field then you need to step up and sell your self, ability and qualifications.
