Purely existential, most patients have cardinal fears that are predicated on lack of knowledge; on ignorance but to the overwhelming majority, fears based on misunderstanding of medical facts as pertaining to Disease processes and medicine usage. So its  very common to be asked  whether a particular drug regimen has inherent side-effects and whether its alternative comes with no-side effects; or if a particular drug's efficacy is documented; in some interesting though isolated cases, whether its safe to take a certain medication with coffee. Those problems are infinite in design and number. A significant number have either in-born fears ( or phobias for instance, of surgery ).

However, afew are based on the limits of medical knowledge itself.  It would be a daunting task to ascribe complete responsibility on cigarettes to the presence, and prevalence of Lung-heart disease. For certain, cigarettes are a contributing factor; but not the causative agent since many non-smokers have chronic obstructive lung-diseases. Medical knowledge herein exercises judicial silence on this matter until more informtion from thorough, rigorous Research avails a crystal-clear, and direct causative mutagenic course.
