Everyone has provided good answers. Another way to differentiate is to review both (position and performance) over the past 3 to 5 years. This will give a good picture of how the company operates and utilizes resources. It also let's you know if the company's management has a good head on their shouders.
Financial Position:
The status of the assets, liabilities, and owners' equity (and their interrelationships) of an organization as reflected in its financial statements. Its also called financial condition.
Financial Performance:
A subjective measure of how well a firm can use assets from its primary mode of business and generate revenues. This term is also used as a general measure of a firm's overall financial health over a given period of time, and can be used to compare similar firms across the same industry or to compare industries or sectors in aggregation.
The Financial Position provides a snapshot of an entity as of a particular date. It list the entity's assets, liabilities, and in the case of a corporation, the stockholders' equity on a specific date.
The Financial Performance presents a summary of the revenues, gains, expenses, losses, and net income or net loss of an entity for a specific period.
