By actively learning the theritical subjects required to become a project manager, practice, assess your achievenments, define the shortcomings and work on sharpening your skills.

Another important approach is to learn from good project managers.

Bisect the project into various stages and get the team under control, ensure the completion before deadline, and if everything went alright, you will be hailed as the best.

Keep all the headaches for yourself, don't let them reach management.
If someone on the team is not complying with the expected outcome step in and do it yourself, that's why you are the project manager, to be accountable.
Lead by exemple.

first of all maybe you should start with the basic soft skills specially task management, time estimation, communication skills, presentation skills, planning and team work, we all know these skills but not all of us are using them correctly.
after that, try to remember that person that you always admired his leadership skills (i imagine that we all have that person, it could be a father, a friend or even a previous manager) try not to copy him but use the skills that he had that made him a great leader.
finally, you should take into consideration the first impression you give to your team, they should understand that you are a team leader not a boss from the beginning and that you've got their back, this will make them feel secured and more comfortable, this is the experience i have as an employee working under a great manager.
wish you the best of luck in your new position and i'm sure that you will make a great manager :)

Just be good example and simple as you are as a person and you will be appreciated by your men. Respect the right of others. Be hones and committed with what you say. Be appreciative. A simple gesture of tapping the shoulder of your men when they've done something right is a good gesture of saying - job well done & thank you.

To be a good and appreciated project manager, you should know your subordinates.
As a project manager, you delegate work effectively and efficiently.
Give layman's term of instruction to your laborers.
A leader won't be successful without teamwork.
Proper execution of the project's timeline and construction materials needed on site is a big help.

(1) know the project, understand it from a high-level view, and try to understand the details to the best you can (2) know the team, understand thier needs, backgrounds, motivation, and their preferred management style (of course, it's for guidance, there are some people who do not like to be managed, but in fact, they would really need to be managed), and their future plans (in other terms, what do they expect to do after this project, is it promotion, money, learning, etc...) (3) communicate, listen more than you speak, at least in the first phase, understand what are the relations between the departments, staff and managers (the formal and informal), try to get more people on board, even before you kick off (4) be nice and polite, and lead by example

My short advice, Getting to study on what you have in your premises and always think in a different directions in all areas, please ask questions on things you know for you to know what's available within your team members knowledge.
Acquire good interpersonal skills, don't be too forward and don't be the first to talk....
Good Luck..
