A sales & marketing manager who's not articulate, creative or communicative enough is per definition a a failing manager. Do you agree or disagree?

I do agree by definition . But I must also make this remark that in reality , there is no such a position of sales&marketing manager . These are two very different business profiles with different skills set and qualifications .  And a sales manager position and a marketing manager position are extremely different positions . So a marketing manager must be analytic , communicative , creative , collaborative and articulate .

I agree, to an extent. Articulation and communication (which are intertwined) are key to being a manager - in general.

However, one does not necessarily have to be "creative" to succeed as a manager, or even a sales, and/or marketing manager. One just needs to be open to ideas other people bring to him or her and look for ways to expand his or her mind.

Essential skills for management (in sales and marketing) include:

Leadership, effective communication (especially of the vision or goals), delegation, project and people management
