I think that the best time to evaluate your position and to take your final decisions is when, despite all your efforts you don't get any recognition or even worse you get rejected. Hence, you must put yourself together and seek employement somewhere else.

actually, i think, just start to make a move going to that next level and everything will follow according to plan. ANYTIME.

This is a very broad question because everybody's personal situation is specific. However, when there is no movement, excitment and chalange in your work you should be on the way for a change. Sometimes its hard because you have to aquire new skills, be brave to take the change or even compromise on your financial stability. But we all strive for a better life style and life itself is a movement, so we must move on.

It is always essential to seek advancement in your career but what is more important is when to take this next step. First, manage your perception to create a foundation of respect. Second, participate and be visible more often; to stand out and to be noticed by your co-workers. Third, influencing others is a major element in gaining competitive advantage. Moreover, when you have influence over someone, they follow because they want to, not because they have to. Finally, when you have power over all these qualities then you will be capable in taking the next step of your career’s path.

It may consist of several reasons but as per my experience what I have considered are as below:

1) Got sufficient experienced and confident to accept the next level challenge

2) When its become mature place to learn new things

3) When  it seems to learn & work with new skills

4) Financial hone to further level

Keeping the learning for new skills and expertise should be the priority at top to change job and better financial aspects is a universal factor.

Mohammad,

I agree to most comments above. In my personal experience, there were three reasons for me to take it to the next level;

1) When I had so much know how about my job that it became boring after a while. Nothing about my job stimulated my brain, so naturally I wanted to look for another challenge. I felt my potential being wasted in the position that I was in.

2) When your superiors do not recognise you for your efforts and hard work, it's time to move on.

3) Money. When you know so much about your job and are not being recognised, you start to believe that your time is worth a lot more than what you are earning. It's time to move on.

I also somewhat agree with Divyesh Patel above regarding the PVI model. However, the PVI model does not apply to all personality types and cultural backgrounds.

1- when have enough deep knoweledge about your job and you need to move up to icrease you understanding and to advance in your career.

2- when you have a good knowledge and work hard but company does not appreciate you or you don't see good future with your company

In these two case I think you have to take a next step hhhhh.

The reality you face at work is that talent, results, and competence alone simply will not allow you to attain the success you deserve. It’s time to stop being surprised by this, and instead take control of your professional future by applying the PVI model.

The three steps in the PVI model are perception, visibility and influence.

  1. Actively promote yourself as an asset and valuable person inside the organization.

  2. Increase your visibility to gain others’ recognition and appreciation for your efforts.

  3. Become a person of influence who makes key decisions inside the organization.

It doesn't connected to a time, It's connected with the way your boss sees you. Perhabs you're good and worth higher rank, but your boss doesn't see that, so you have to leave immediately.

And you may not worth anything, but your boss sees you're Superman.Unfortunately it's all about the luck.
