This is a vaaaaast topic... Ok
In poetry, don't over personalize the experience but rather describe the feeling. Many people will relate to the same feeling despite the varying situations or causes.
In journalism, analyze the readers of the publication and talk in their tone and lingo. Provide information, nicely. Don't blabber.
In copywriting, analyze the target audience and the general image of the brand you're writing about. Don't do cliches, a customer is most likely to throw away a flyer if he feels it's the usual advertising lies or discountinue reading an email if it sounds like too much flattering and branding rather than what the customer really needs to know or buy. Customers' needs are the reason they read.
