It all depends on your objectives and target audience. You cannot tell which would be more effective before identifying these two.

It is because of the reduced cost, many businesses are choosing online marketing instead of offline marketing. Internet or online marketing offers flexible, cost effective and better managed budget control in all aspects.

SEO is free of charge, all that is required is a good optimized webpage and knowledge. The cost effective in online marketing is relatively less compared to outdoors or newspapers. Also, when considering PPC, it is also a great way to save money and keep an eye on costs as payment is based on real clicks your ads get. The cost of TV ads is enormous and you cannot even tell how many people actually paid attention. Considering all these more cost effective is online advertising.

Online advertising vs. offline advertising - that's a very general questions. it's actually a wrong question because it lacks direction. What is you objective? Below is my simplified general feedback, which may not be applicable in all cases - e.g FMCG and Real Estate work completely the opposite in several ways.

For immediate sales (WOP or FOP, or just trial)? I would say online. Why? Ridiculously cheaper and better targetted to the online user that fits the target audience.

For top of mind brand recall: Offline. because its right there in your face whether you want to see it or not.

The cost effectiveness would depend on the objective , target audience, geographic vs pan country campaign . In digital as you start cutting the markets in geography for more focused approach the overall reach goes down thereby increasing the effective reach and hence leads to increase in cost . While in case of offline since the geo cut is not so fine the cost somehow get blended.

It depends on what your prodcut is, what type of campaign you want to run, what segment you want to target and most important...how you want to position your product.

I would say online is more cost effective.

Here are some finger tip reasons why:

- Its socially inclusive.

- And..the doing population of the world (i.e young people) are 24/7 online, fill the rest.....

-  Non fixation of location (or limitation), flexibility, speed, the adventure of power at the finger tips with each stroke (as well as the chase) have ONLINE!! written all over it (which again points to our young online users) .

- I must also say the world has more young people, than any group, so what affects, drives, persuades, interests, or relates to them. is the way forward. THIS IS A GOLDEN RULE, i believe.

- It also affords other interested parties the opportunity to  further investigate your ad while viewing it (security is the other component of the human DNA not seen under the microscope).

Plus..or just to cap...

- Everything the future points at no borders..

It will depend of the type of audience you are targetting. After identifying who you want the advert to capture you can be able to choose the cheaper and effective medium or way to advertise through.
