Hopefully, I'm not reposting this question - I recently completed my ACCA and I'm looking to start a career in the field of finance. There are a pool of mixed opinions floating around and I would like to narrow down some of my thoughts to a concise decision. I have a few options in mind: First - The firm route: Joining a firm of auditors, gain experience, and then move your career along that path with the downside being that the payout will not be that great. Second - The finance department route: this is typically same as above with the change being that instead of a firm, I would join a company with an in-house finance function. Third - Grab any opportunity that makes itself available. I would generally appreciate everyone to chime in some input :) Best, Adnan
A starting point would be to get some wider practicle experiance, also keep in mind ur future plans for further study:
Go for a firm (Big4 prefered) if u plan to do ICAP
go for internships or MTO programs in registered organizations if u plan on doing ICAEW
If none of the above apply then try for the big four or any Multi National or big profile Public Company
Priorities as following:
1st Big4,2nd Multi-National Public Company3rd Other Audit firms within top104th any opportunity anyways till a better comes up. Good Luck
Thank you Wassay, a follow up question to your answer: What are your thoughts over doing an MBA compared to the other certifications you just mentioned - is a proper masters more useful? Say to come into an administrative/managerial role in a company.
