When dealing with customers, it is important to demonstrate effective communication skills.

 

Here are some tips on how you can communicate more effectively with customers;

  1. Listen carefully
  2. Think before responding.
  3. Be trustworthy and honest

  4. Don't rush communication

  5. Stay in the moment

  6. Be patient and open-minded

  7. Follow up after communicating

  8. Ask for feedback from others

Ten Steps to Positive Communication 

Active listening involves not only hearing the words being said, but actually taking them on-board and making positive interpretations about what the speaker is feeling, thinking and responding to, during their conversation with you. 

Some things to keep in mind when you are actively listening to another person are:

1. Prepare yourself

2. Try not to talk over the top of the other person

3. Put the talker at ease

4. Remove distractions

5. Empathise

6. Be patient 

7. Avoid personal prejudice, discrimination or judgement

8. Listen to the voice tone 

9. Listen for the message – not just words 

10. Watch for non-verbal signals
