How best can one teach apostrophes?

I noted that when some pupils: Class4-6 when writing sentences with plurals put apostrophes unnecessarily e.g. The boys' are in their room.How do you go about correcting this?

The best way to describe it is like this

 

The apostrophe comes between two nouns (things) that belong to each other.  

 

Hence the example given in the question will be falsified immediately
