I agree with this assertion to the point that i couldn't agree with it more . Nevertheless , as any other field of study , one ought to acquire & attain a certain requisite set of success elements & aspects ( Pre-requisites )  , before hand , & right off the pat , that , certainly , no one could , indisputably ,  succeed without , & , they are : First : Possessing the deeply , steeply & profoundly embedded , entrenched & engrained  PASSION ( Love ) for the relevant Academic Discipline in question . Second , & , it bifurcates into two separate Prongs : A : COMMITMENT . And , B : TAKING THE INITIATIVE. Without those above-mentioned indispensable , in-disposable & badly needed pre-conditions , I can bet the bottom Dollar of any one who's interested in acing & excelling their Speciality that they'd NOT amount to that much of a success or excellence in such forte at the end of the day . And , they'll only be left with a mediocre , average & One-step-forward-two-steps-backward kind of level of PERCEIVED so-called top-notch personal capacity in their field of speciality , & , in this case , in their field of Translation . And i  know that some might think or believe that such an afore-mentioned2-cents ( Opinion & Stand Point )  could be construed or perceived as a harsh or some kind of Hyperbole . Still , i still do believe that that's the only way that One , any one ,  could , convincingly & movingly , put across the argument , & , convey to other people the message , that they' re , well & truly , that good at what they do , & , that they're not stuck in some kind of a rut or in reverse  or even in neutral , thinking that they are that Goooood , when in all actuality , they're just stranded , marooned & trapped at the Passing Grade level , or , maybe they're just good , but not even with a Capital G ( g ) , nothing more & nothing less . One need not to rest on their Laural's , & , accept their previous accomplishments as they are . One should & must , invariably & always , push the envelop , raise the bar & go the extra mile ( Pushing their Boundaries ) , so that they can stipulate , with hand on heart , & , without any shadow of a doubt , that they're , simply put , that GOOD . ( And that's the way it goes ) .

It is indeed a higly-complicated mental process, yet a translator could be gifted, with the ability to traslate in his/her own uniqe way; training should polish that gift. Language skills are obviously required, for every langage has certain rules which every tranlator ought to know and abide by.

No doubt it is.

Well, one could say that what I said above goes without saying, BUT I just wanted to convey the message that translation is not only about speaking two languages; it is a science that has its principles, strategies, methodology, etc. And it is not the work of laymen; it requires an intellectual to do the job properly. Thank you all!

I do agree with you that advanced language skills and specialized training.

Anyhow, this is not enough. A translator is required to have control over both source and target languages, but this is not the whole issue. Some experts defines translation as an art and craft. In this sense, a translator should be creative and deal with texts and what is behind the texts.

Moreover, besides the language skills, a translator should know exactly the environment of the source text, the culture of people, and other related issues. This is because he is required to convey the meaning, which is not necessarily gained by just getting language equivalents from a source to a target language.

Translation needs not just understanding the text word by word instead also understanding the spirit of the text and understand the meaning as a whole. It needs high concentration on using the right terminology. this appears especially in translation from arabic to english or french language. the translator must have the skill to understand how to turn a long sentence maybe in arabic two few words in english or in french. Translation needs a deep research about words that are not used every day. For example if you ask any person what does hedge fund means in arabic, i am sure he will not reply directly with the right answer. Here is the role of the translator to be ready to provide the right answer which is of course صدنوق التحوط.  Moreover, translation needs speed. clients today do not havr time to wait for days to have a document translated especially official ones. So the translator must concentrate on getting everything ready by appropriate time.

Why not posing the question in Arabic?

I don't completely agree. It's not highly-complicated. Yet, it needs concentration, skills and exprience.
