Proficiency in English may matter a lot, to a certain degree or not matter at all. It depends on many factors like: country of work (in Germany or France, rest assured that it won't matter in most cases as long it's German or French, respectively). It also relates to your company's culture and type (a multinational may impose English as main language). But in general, command of English gives an outstanding competitive advantage, as it is not only the "lingua franca" of the world now, but it is also the NATIVE language of business! Having said this, many studies in English native countries indicate that a top hiring manager will not let things such as "accent" cloud the evaluation of a candidate with top expertise. Expertise will cover any imperfections in English language if combined with outstanding record, experience and education (from a respected country), if sufficient proficiency is present. In the Middle East (specifically GCC), it simply matters a lot.

Good Day Zafar!

English is the commonest language world wide and matters a lot for most of the world's population as a second language. Inspired with the answer of Mr. Khatim.

But as far as you question is concerned, it has a diversified answer. To my opinion, if we dont compere english with expertise, then experties matters more than a second language.

In the world of Marketing, anybody can convince his/her customer (in his/her native language) to buy a product, but without expertise, its hard to sell.

On the other hand, * I don't know arabic. Thanks Allah that "Bayt" has language option otherwise this site would be useless for most of the communities.

So both have equal importance and not comparable.

Good Luck
