To write an effective piece you should decide your targeted audience first, have a clear idea about your topic, and then write in way that will grab your audience's attention; you should speak a language and decide a writing style that they understand.
This is a very generic question.....acctually, my dear Samar. In English literature, there were twoo schools of thought; art for art's sake and art for the people. Poetry, novels and dramas were thought to be the sole "creation" of a person rather than a reflection of the realities around her/him. Rise of Marxism, novelists like Charles Dickens -- about whom Karl marx said that one Dicken's novel was many times greater more reflective og socio-economic realities than Marx's Das Kapital - and colonialism and capitalism resulted into alienation of labour, new means of production and the so-called Pink Decade of1930s in which many famous writers sided with the republican in the Spanish Civil War against the military fascist dictator Franco, focusssed more on the miseries of lower classes. This trend pioneered "reflection of social realities, miseries and exploitative started giving the imortance...or in simple words individuals feelings, perceptions and viewpoints becasme important. As formal marketing ushered in "importance of the audience, be s/he a reader, a viewer and social media user or an advertising campaign target for a fast moving consumer good (FMCG). Samar's questions relates, I think, to her audience as readers.
Audience segmenation is the first thing aboit your readers. Great if you have researched information about yiur readers' perceptions, fears, attitude and knowledge so that you know your readers. The next thing is to get a handle on your readers' media consumption habits - because you have to use a medium to communicate your message - and write short sentences, simple language....The trick is to KNOW your readers before you unleash your piece on them. Last thing................don't write for yourself......write for others. Write to commmunicate and not to obfuscate (confuse) your readers. Have a nice day. Zahid
