What is the most important in oil lubricant ? the manufacture or data sheet?

i think Data sheet is the best thing to review first .

It depends on the situation, when you have a machine needs a specific oil you don’t need the data sheet except for noticing because the manufacturer would define the appropriate oil for you. When you have to choose a lubricant you need to compare the datasheets to find the most identical specifications.In both cases the manufacturer is the guarantor for the best following of that specifications.

Thanks for your question, for each machine( automotive or production machine) there is manual called Lubricants and adhesive data sheet for each machine manufacturer , It recommend lubricant chracteristics which is the major point in answering your respected question and also it gives you the trade name for many manufacturers like shell, mobil,... etc. 

for example for your vehicle , if you read your manual you can find use lubricant DOT3 for braking system DOT3 is the technical name not the trade name and you can buy regardless the manufacturer.

To sum up,

best way is to depend on the lubricant characteristics( technical name) mentioned on data sheet and seach for this name at any reliable manufacuters that should be recommended too on the machine you are going to us this lubricant in .

surly data sheet is very important but  you should follow Manufacturer recomandations

surely the data sheet is more important than the brand of the producer (of course if we assume that the data sheet is correct!). But there are many cases in which maintain the same brand of oil lubricant for a machine is essential. I have seen machines remain in love of their lubricant and report their pain with small power losses when the lubricant was changed with another similar but other brand. Have machines a soul? Absolutely yes!   

Lubricant represents the inefficiency component of a machine because it takes away the frictional heat of the machine from the moving components. A static equipment like transformer do not require lubricant. since proper lubrication decides the effective life of the machine, it is safe to follow the manufacturers recommendation .

data sheet is important to know the tech specs and the equality chart for diffrent manufecturers .and the menufecturer is important by its reputation quality and compliance with the standrads .

Manufacturer recomandations are important  about the brand, but if the recomanded brande is not avaliable,you can  search about proper brand by data sheet.
