Listening to TOUGH employees!

Do you walk in office or went to those employees who feel ignored, under-utilized or grieved. Listening to unhappy employees is the most important source of improvement. Do you practice it? i am not talking of those individuals who always complain/dissatisfied or having bad attitude.

Dealing with TOUGH employees is a must !! Successful managers do NOT ignore such situation and they are expected to deal with it effectively and solve it from its roots.    The end-result would be "happy, motivated, satisfied, productive and well recognized/rerwarded employees". This prompts me to explain what a true M.A.N.A.G.E.R should do in this regard.   Every letter stands for a desired attribute/role that the manager should have and play in an optimal relation with the employees !

Dealing tough employee is a challenge for the boss as well as HR. Someone tries to avoid it, but capable Manager does not avoid it. In this situation, tough employees are invited to my counselling session and I try to hear them what actually they want to see the organization. We always have motivation to them for keeping the right track.

Dear Mr. khan

Yes I believe attending those employees’ help to improve, most of the time they help to find loose thread. These type of problem mostly arise when any experienced person join the company it generated in the phase when employee try to adjust himself in new environment.  Generally they contact us but while moving in the plant and office area we have to identified them. A little bit listing and counselling heal them. While setting new projects I practice these it is result oriented exercise I found the person which was counselled not only heal but also guide other new  joined person. And most important it generate faith among employees towards system and management

If your organization allows, try offering a job shadowing or job rotation activity of his/her choice. Stretch assignments may also be a good idea, in the sense I complete my existing work and also involve in other company related projects.

Entrusting club activities, sports or entertainment or other related events and  planning may also be a good idea.

Understanding a situation/ colleague is the most important quality every Individual should possess. Once you get to understand the root cause of any grievience.....the rest is easy! Mainly you need listining skills and a bit of compassion. However Attitude is alltogether another aspect...so you need to look out for trends when it comes to employees.
