Being function managers.
ONLY ONE THING THE BUSINESS LEADERS AVOIDS TO LEARN OR FOLLOW IS
AN EGOSTIC NATURE AND CENTRALIZATION OF DECESION POWER.
That company can survive by taking care of customer alone. All stake holders – customers, employees, suppliers, share holders, and community – are vital part for survival and growth.
LEARN-- UNLEARN --- RELEARN is important for every one, for leader he must unlearn is ignoring the view point of his followers.

With the changing business environments and available technology, social media advances, socio-economic changes...business leaders are at a stand-point where if they don't adapt to today's ways, they'll simply fall behind.
For one thing, social media and the intricacies of today's consumer has forced the corporate world into a new level of transparency. Businesses are being forced to be very open about their corporate governance..trying very hard to establish trust with their consumers.
Corporate trade secrets and intangible intellectual property have been redefined in a sense. Today's' leaders have to learn to give more in order to get more.
Furthermore because of social media, the company/client interaction have become not only a necessary but straightforward platform as well. Today's business leaders must not shy away from their consumers' remarks and feedback which has become more of an interactive and open panel. In the past, consumers would just send in their remarks by email and all you had to do was reply with a "thank you" note. Today, the online platforms allows the consumer to easily converse with a rep from your company and expect an immediate recognition and detailed response...and that response can also be refuted and debated online in front of the whole world to see. This often results in what is called "user generated content" , which while is challenging to keep up...makes great free branding and advertising for your business.
Again, another feature of today's tech that changes the playing field for today's business leader is that the online world turns any localized business into a global business. Companies are no longer limited to a localized physical presence...they can reach out to anywhere and anyone in the world by having an online presence. Meetings are being held through Skype, sales are being closed through PayPal, deliveries are easier than ever, and global outsourcing can make your job a lot easier as well. Smart phones are practically mobile offices on their own; and mobile applications have created a entirely new interactive platform and marketing tool and recipient.
Knowing the technology and using it to your maximum advantage is critical to survive in today's market.
I think business etiquette has changed as well in today's corporate world. It's not about "wearing the dark blue suit with white shirt", "showing up on time" everyday , "sending the most amount of faxes per day". Most business today doesn't happen in the office sitting at your desk making phone calls. Today's business leader has to learn to apply more of a family sense of leadership; respecting more your employees and empowering them. You have to truly invest in their personal growth and development.
they need to change. Nothing is as upsetting to your people as change. Nothing has greater potential to cause failures, loss of production, or falling quality. Yet nothing is as important to the survival of your organization as change. History is full of examples of organizations that failed to change and that are now extinct.
Managing change means managing people's fear. Change is natural and good, but people's reaction to change is unpredictable and irrational. It can be managed if done right.
They need to totally unlearn old fashioned ways of autocratic leadership, where power used to be derived from assuming "position". Nowadays, it is based on "value proposition". They need to unlearn that, as a leader, you can get away with whatever you say or do. They need to pay attention to new elements in our lives facilitated by a mix of technology and global awareness, such as "citizen journalism" and in business "employee voice" & "corporate responsibility" as a means of gaining strong & natural employee loyalty and unraveled "community support".
