the manager is the company's owner and he started to check your inbox and reply to your clients without your permission or even informing you when he does?
I don't think such a situation arises in reality unless,
1. The employee is under radar to be fired due to his poor performance or not meeting expectations, and the boss wants to scrutinize all the work of employee. The moment employee finds this situation he has to find other job, or else share mail password with boss and let him do whatever he wants with it..
2. Or when there is a strong business reason related to client relationship. As long as the purpose is good I don't have problem to share my work email password with my supervisor.
At any rate, work email is proprietery right of company and if management wants to see any of your mail data they are authorized to do so...
This is a wrong practise as it leads to strong breach of trust. If the manager has to do that work then why assign it to others and make that resource invaluable.
Such situation is also worth pondering as to why this started and perhaps there may be some learning from it.
Manager could have done it differently by giving feedback / sharing concers, discussing on issues and giving the required inputs for improvements if required. Alternatively, manager could have asked for being kept in the loop.
NEVER,, ITS NOTHING TO DO WITH HIM,,,
For Critical Business requirements or Contingency purpose the work mail password can be shared with Manager. After the requirement got over or fulfilled the work mail password need to change immediately.
no i won't simply because i'm the custodian of that channel .
unless he is holding the proper paper work for that
First I would like to highlight that in any corporate it is a law in IT that you should not share your password with anyone.
So Manager should be the first responsible person to adhere the company policies and procedures and avoid such practice under his/her Aauthority. In any special case (urgent business requirement)if delegation of authority is required it should be communicated with proper intention and period to all seniors, and approvals should be taken from DOA.
Also the main user needs to change the password immediately upon completion of task to avoid any misuse after the authorised period of use.
Directly i have to accept because it is an official mail and it must use only for work so its normal
Ask for a waiver in return.
As per the Policy, employees should never share the password to anyone in the organisation and not even the manager. So its very obvious that he can refuse to give the password if the manager asks for the password and Manager cannot do anything if the employee refuses to share the password. Manager should provide Specific reason for why he is asking the password from the employee. The rule of not sharing password is applicable to every person in the organisation so it must be followed by everyone even the Managers and Directors of the Company.
You can give it to him; If you resist he may find a way to open your inbox or change your password... But after all, you have to reconsider the trust between you and this manager...
Good Day!!!
As you mentioned, the manager is also the owner of the company...... so whats wrong in it? he is just asking the work mail password, not your personal one.
He can use other tactics to reach the inbox as he is the owner....
I thinks we should take it neutrally.
