Night auditor is not the same in all hotels but in general he is the one who aware and adhere to all accounting policies and procedures and ensure accuracy of guest bills, balance the cashier at the close of shift and resolve any discrepancies in cash float balancing, analyze rate variance report to ensure correct room rates and revenue control, run a credit check report on each shift and report any possible doubtful accounts.
all above make its very important to have a night auditor specially that we have our software management system that we start the new date every morning and before doing that we must be sure that all accounts are ok
In small hotels we don’t hire a night manager and usually we don’t assign a front office supervisor during night shift and the night auditor takes the rule that they do
I Think that Nigh auditor making important role in the software system and if they are care less to check the room Tariff and food and beverage report and other charges like transportation , telephone etc. This consiquences is a big isssue after night audit . so, we have to do allowance from Total revenue . In my openion allowance is not accepted as direct or indirect at hotel. Because Hotel receptionist have to confirm the room before night shift. According to me " Night auditor is a specialised function having check room rate and Booking status and amendment and cash collection and credit card details and bank cheque and food and beverage revenue and other miscellanious and review at all .then, go to open a new date and create night audit is called known as Night audit report". Night auditor have to ensure this process up to date before night audit.
i beleave that night auditor is a same to check the file at all Hotel and software may be different and facilities as per Hotel.
