It depends on the book. Is it a book by Prof. John Smith (or any other scholar's name) OR a book by Donald Trump, the successful American real estate tycoon? Now, I don't intend the belittling of scholary and academic work on the scientific aspect of sales (whether math or psychology), but in my personal experience, books of the likes of Donald Trump carry more applicable value to the sales discipline than "philosophical sales literature". I can also speak of own experience and say that about75% of my sales skills are gained through practise and training and NOT from books! And NO, I wasn't born a salesman AT ALL, actually I always was more of an academic person and a book worm, until I STARTED selling. It didn't stop me from reading but it gave me more freedom to interpret and apply theoritical knowledge with more real-life "wisdom", sound scrutiny and due creativity.

you can add more tools and technics for your knowldge from these books

and yes you can learn sales from books , but you still need to learn the comunications skills

and to try to apply it in real worl , so to taste both cases , when you close a deal , and when you lose a deal ,

most important issue , is to know exactly why you close or lose a deal

Better than those who did it one-on-one.YES we can.It is however a tip of the ice-berg,the bulk lies in the inner drive one has to compete on the market. The sales market(like any other market anyway) is a cut throat affair where the fittest and versatile survive.

One can get the know-how and mechanics of it by reading books, but one needs to have a flare and patience for it to really succeed in sales. For some people, it comes easy but for some, it needs to be mastered as in the case of any other skills. Sales is a tough job and may not be suitable for every one.

Books are necessary for the basic theoritical background and valuable experiences gained by practitioners. After that comes the hands on experience.

Surely today is all written, how to do, what to say .. that smile do, how to dress and how to behave and sell better. But a person must have the enthusiasm to sell, to please the customer, make him happy purchase. This thing is not in the books is within us. I remember that my father was an agent for the sale of medicines, he had not studied marketing techniques and strategies, but it was the first vendor of the company. To sell was jovial, friendly, he always told jokes and doctors were always happy to receive it. Before he sold himself then gave explanations in its own way, the doctors prescribed medicines. We can learn how to sell through a book? Will the book show us the way, but, in my opinion, intuition, sensitivity and human contact are essential and are part of our intelligence (not just knowledge).

Up to some extent we can get familier with sales methodolgies from books, and books do provide the description of research & study of many years, but A sales person have to get his own efforts to understand them pricatically and thus we can say, books are complimentary to practical knowledge.

In other way we can say that " Marriages are made in heaven but maintenence charges have to paid on earth"
