Your question tries build a meaningful connection between two worlds quoting from the statement of your question

  1. Engineer To Order (ETO) manuefacturers requirements
  2. ERP features that match these requirements

In my professonal work, I believe that understanding the question is half of the answer or even more.  Here in this question, there are two big unknowns (or at least not specified in your question)

  1. The EXACT REQUIREMENTS of this manuefacturer who needs such ERP software/features
  2. Who is the ERP VENDOR and what features/moules exist to map to the requirements

May I ask you not take these question lightly, because they are the basis and foundation for what you want to implement and whether it succeeds or fails to deliver what is reuired/expected form it

 

In my professinal services, I have exactly done that to help customers select the right software for their requirements ... through2 specific services

  1. Wrting/Validating the RFP  (RFI in some cases prior to the RFP) to make sure it reflects the official requirments per customer true needs & expectations)
  2. Vendor/Vendor solution selection based on the responses to the RFP using weights & measures to cover the functionality matrix and how it is covered, the commercial side (price/cost), vendor capability to deliver and implement the solution, overheads on the customer side per each vendor proposal, and other things

I have also been invited to some "poor performance system situations leading to dissatisfied end-users (business lines) and wasted financial investments"  and found several causes and reasons for such a situation including

  1. Major mistakes in understanding the customer needs and reflecting them into the requirements
  2. Misunderstanding the vendor proposed solution and how it maps to the requirements
  3. Wrong assumptios made throughout the requirement analysis
  4. Harmful compromizes during the implementation
  5. Shortsight to recognize the value of qualified users to run, manage and maintain the ssystem

I am not going to expand further on this .... what I said is already enough to clarify and stress the message

 

However, and in absence of all these "necessary" details...  it is only possible to provide a "generic" answer that would apply to ETO manuefacturers .. in what applies directly to ETO and manufacturing. Other functions including finance, HR, sales, distribution, ... etc ... etc are assumed to be there and no need to talk about them.

 

Specifically for the "ETO manufacturer", the following would be applicable

 

  1. Materials Requirement Planning  (MRP)
  2. Manufacuring Execution System  (MES)
  3. Manufacturing Accounting
