Targeting right customers very important for success. Targeting specific people deoesnt means exclude others but focus on selected.  What is your product strength and why your existing customer likes your business or product and identify key strength. Find a niche marekt dont focus too much on existing cutomer go for different but potential market. 

who can like your product?

who can afford your product?

what are the competitors missing target market?

what ll make your different from others?

 

Skim your area through analysis like these and then analyse remaining market , are there enough potential to target .

It depends on area, the kind of product.

I.E. Wester countries are more "fluid" and mixed so targeting a group of people may be tricky just only with economical factors (level of study, income, etc.) instead in third-world countries may still work. It is very important to work on "groups" and "tribes".
