I think it's50-50. A good teacher needs innate qualities like love care , empathy and interest for teaching. At the same  time proper training and experience is required to deal with the individual difference in each student as well as current trends in education system.

I agree with previous answers, in the main teachers are born to teach, it comes naturally. Teachers can be "manufactured" but they tend to be imitations of the real thing.

Teachers are born and not made. Totally agree.

Someone can be made into a Teacher - but ultimately they lack that special something.

As with nursing, some people have a natural caring disposition which can be utilized effectively within a nursing environment.  Some people have an innate ability to connect with people, want the best for them, want to share information and get the best possible support and advice for people.  This type of person does not necessarily take up the profession of teaching and there are other vocational occupations where these attributes are valuable and can be used.

Teaching is one of the most important and yet sometimes one of the most underestimated professions.  To have the ability to communicate with a person and make a difference to their lives, a student will never forget that.  A student never forgets a good student.  Poor teachers are detrimental to the future progression of a student through the educational and job/career market.  So to have the ability to naturally connect with and be willing to help a student/pupil achieve is one of the most invaluable assets a person can have.

Importantly, a good teacher can be the difference between effective advisory support for a student's dream and the failure of a student to follow their passion and end up in a job which is far from what the student wanted to do.  There are many instances where a student has wanted to be pilot for instance, but because of the teacher's inability to think passed their own limiting beliefs, they have advised students to attend painting and decorating courses for example.  Playing it safe and sometimes only ticking their boxes by providing more numbers for the economic market of that time.

For too many teachers, teaching is a paycheck and the thinking appears to be if a student is good, then fine, if they are below average then society will deal with them.  If there if passion, dedication and more than the 'school/college working hour' approach to teaching, then the world can indeed be the student's oyster guided along by a 'good' teacher.

Although teaching is considered a profession and definitely we need to learn about a profession to join it. One can perform good as a teacher after acquiring this skill.

When we say that Mr. so and so is an ideal teacher. His way of teaching is so fascinating that we never saw like this before. It means that Mr. so and so has something which others don't have. This is actually the passion which is God gifted and you can't acquire it with training, courses or experience.

For  such a person we use this phrase; He is a teacher by birth.

Some teachers are born. But they can be made.  Good teachers can make good teachers by mentoring. Most of the time we are not knowing what are our aptitudes. I think everyone has a potential to excel if trained properly

I believe that teachers are made and self made. One has to acquire knowledge and skills to teach and impart to others. The interest to excel and balancing the professional and commercial needs & benefits are the thrust to be example setters. Such people are seen as born with. It so applies in any profession.

As in any other profession, teachers also need to persue continious learning to keep their knowledge updated and develop their skills by adapting to changes. Outstanding teaching profession demands laborious input  for self development.
